What this pilot
covers.
Five counties × 27 reviewed FEMA metrics = 135 county values. Downloads, county pages and the comparison show the same metrics. This count describes no property coverage, forecasts or commercial reuse clearance.
Source: FEMA National Risk Index (December 2025 release). Fixed development snapshot; no live update promise.
Included in free sample download
- County code (FIPS), name and state abbreviation.
- Seven hazard risk ratings: coastal flooding, riverine flooding, hurricane, wildfire, earthquake, tornado and heat wave.
- Fifteen modeled Expected Annual Loss (EAL) figures in dollars per year. Composite: total and building loss. Riverine flood, coastal flood, hurricane, wildfire, earthquake and tornado: total and building loss. Heat wave: total only.
- Three exposure measures: population, building replacement value and agricultural market value.
- Two relative index scores: social vulnerability and community resilience.
- Original labels plus distinct missing and non-rating states. An empty cell means the source published no value.
- Los Angeles CA, Denver CO, Miami-Dade FL, Harris TX and Chittenden VT.
Where to use the metrics
- Free sample workbook: all 27 metrics per county with a column dictionary on the Read me sheet.
- County pages: each metric grouped as ratings, loss by hazard, exposure and resilience, with unit and observation window.
- Interactive comparison: selectable counties, switchable measures and a sortable loss breakdown.
- Portfolio example: 25-row shortlist matching, location concentration and unresolved rows.
Not included
- Property addresses, geocoding, mapped-zone conclusions or insurance estimates.
- Observed event timelines, property-loss estimates or modeled future scenarios. Water-rights and mineral research are separate scopes.
- All U.S. counties, districts, neighborhoods or a live API.
- Commercial redistribution or resale: source reuse rights remain unresolved.
Coverage questions
Why only five counties?
The site, downloads and checks use the same reviewed pilot. New counties need field and source review first.
What does the 135-value count include?
It counts 27 reviewed metrics for each of five counties across the workbook, pages and comparison. It excludes property coverage and other database fields.
What happens when the source has no value?
A county is shown as Not Applicable, No Rating or blank, exactly as the source published it. Nothing is converted to zero and a non-rating never means low risk.
Can a source be added later?
Yes, after review of its definition, geographic level, period, missing-value rules and use terms.
